Summertime and the Videoing is Easy

                      Musician? Singer? Dancer? Actor? Athlete? Got a unique story to tell?

Is your student finishing junior year?

Facing the imminent onslaught of AP classes, SATs and ACTs, SAT IIs, and college applications? Fall of senior year gets hectic if not overwhelming.  That’s why some students wisely use this summer to get a head start in college applications:

  • Work summer jobs and internships to gain real world, résumé-building experience;
  • Get tutored for SAT and ACT exams;
  • Research and tour colleges;
  • Meet with college advisors;
  • Write the college app essays.
  • And one more:  make a video for college applications.

Why a Video?

  • Some college departments require performance video for auditions or athletic try-outs;
  • Makes a powerful supplement to an application;
  • Shows the essence of a student’s individuality, accomplishments and dreams;
  • Helps your child stand out from thousands of applicants competing for a coveted spot;
  • Provides admissions officers with a personal insight into your child;
  • Documents uniqueness that a school transcript and standardized test-scores can’t;
  • Emphasizes a singular passion and talent;
  • Showcases achievements in sports and the arts;
  • Expresses quirky, unique perspective that would benefit any campus.

Why Now?

Document events that happen only this summer:

  • Performances: a lead in a summer stock play, a big solo in a musical, a musical recital, or dance competition.
  • Athletics: a highlight reel of summer league sports to submit to college coaches. Fall sports may be too late.
  • Admissions officers want leadership. Show your student stepping up in community service, or working a demanding internship.
